Great restaurants...

For those who are interested in eating at the water's edge, please head to Point Break @ Ghadira bay. The food is really good and if you sit out doors, you are literally on the water's edge. Excellent location for lunch. The wind may ruin the experience so check the weather before going.

For meat lovers I would recommend the Butcher's Grill @ Point de Vue. The ribeye is selling @ €16 and the portions are huge! The South African marinade makes all the difference. NB service is not as good as the meat!

Also another restaurant that has great food but disturbing ambiance is Caribbean Bar and Restaurant, Limits of Half-Far. The restaurant / strip club (yes strip club - fully equipped with waitresses / strippers from the Eastern Block) has great meat. The ribeye sells from €20 / €25 depending on the weight. Again the meat here is to die for. The place, on the other hand isn’t. Also this place does not take credit cards.

We tried the Afternoon Tea at the Westin Dragonara, although the quality of the food was good, we still found the following, too many pastries and little of sandwich, tea was not in a China Tea Pot and drunk from Pyrex Cups, not 5 Star quality for sure, but was told it was Starwood policy they serve Tea with Pyrexs Cups and Saucers, strange. The service was normal except we were served the tea well before we got our eats and was already cold and had to ask for additional hot water which came in a China Tea Pot. Value for money if you can eat all the pastries, unless it was a mistake Euro 14.50 for Tea for Two.

How is it that the majority of Restaurants in Malta and Gozo do not have available hangers for patrons to hang coats during the winter season? These do not have to be a permanent fixture being that we have a longer summer than winter but at least please let's have something to be able hang coats on. One place that has a coat hanger stand is La Rive in Tigne Street Sliema this place deserves the Golden Spoon Award.

Tried Afternoon Tea at the Hotel Exelsior, Euro 28.00 for two persons, four type of sandwiches three type of cake and scones with double cream and Jam,and choice of tea. Very filling and for the five star establishement it was value for money. The lacking in the sandwiches was that they were preprepared, the scones seemed out of a mix bag, the cakes were ok we, also had a chocolate tart but could not eat anymore. The service was pleaseant, the atmospher is lovely. Pefer on the next time to go to Hotel Pheonicia for there afternoon tea.

The best restaurant is at home, with food prepered in your kitchen by yourself, and the products bought from reliable source like Scotts, Piscopo, or maybe Arkadia and not to forget to mention the little corner shop close by you who has his goods freshly delivered evry other day. Enjoy and savour and your own flavour

Recently went to cafe jubilee at Gzira with a friend and ordered a chicken baguette and a sirlion ftira. I could have ate either as they tasted the same ie. no taste. My friend suggested that chicken meat might have come all the way from brazil or in brine from miracle foods. I took an amaretto cake afterwards and was so sweet but with no amaretto taste whatsoever except for some almond essence doused somewhere along. Mc Donalds food is exciting compared to this :(

Question time.
If you go to a restaurant and you notice that you are
presented, on your plate, a product from Lidl,
would you go again ???
This happened to me some 2 weeks ago.
While eating at this restaurant, I got a hunch that
some items are sourced from Lidl.
So the next morning I went for my first time to Lidl
to check this out, and hey I found 3 items that were on
the menu at Lidl.
To be fair on Lidl, I bought some stuff to try out and they
were excellent value for money !
The thing is I wont be spending my hard earned Euros at local
restaurants like I used to before.

How safe is the food we are served in restaurants, Cafes and Bars. Is there anyone checking it for us. See what happened in the UK

Wednesday evening we wanted to treat some relatives on a holiday in Malta and tried to book at the Cafe Premier Valletta, George Curmi 'il-Puse' was on, not a chance the place was fully booked. Got my mind at work and called Trattoria Pallazz, never been there as I get castrophobic in lower ground floor restaurants. It transpired that they put up tables outside and we went for it and while dinning still managed to listen to Il-Puse, the food was well cooked and well seasoned, the Baked potaotes is not like we make at home but was OK, the real Hobza maltija, a great relief. The bill was also reasonable compare to the buffet dinner at the Cafe Premier. Will try it again.

Friday night went to Cafe Premier Valletta for dinner and live entertainment. The entertainment was a trio that played jazz all evening, not my taste for music while you dine. The food was OK except we had to settle with cold food due to the wind and everything got cold quickly, this could not be helped as it was an act of God. The service was without any table attention, we did not have starters except for two pieces of Bruschetta each, between that and the main meal we could have gone and saw part one of what was showing at the Embassy. Trying to get attention for a waiter got, I cramp in my arm raising it so often, we had to ask for bread not 'Maltese Hobza' in the captial city of Malta under the arches of the Biblotheca. Asked for the bill and things changed we got it in record time of about 15 seconds that was the fastest thing served to us. Again the food was well cooked and seasoned. Will go again on a Wednesday as we had done before it was buffet "Self Service" and live from Valletta George Curmi 'Il-Puse'. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Have you ever been to Mezzaluna at St Paul's Bay? It used to be called Ciao Bella. It is now run by Vladimir Forte who used to operate the Café Chapelle 50 meters away: you had been there for sure if it still in you portfolio then you need to change it as there are new operators.

I first went there for a Pizza and always had a pizza ever since. I even took it home as I live nearby by. We like the Thin and Crispy type and the ingredients are good too. However once I took a friend of mine and he had the rib eye and it was a bit on the chewy side; the guy has problems with his teeth and had to leave half of it. He was offered an alternative but did not have it as he had lost his appetite.

Never have sweets when in doubt. The espresso was good and the service was good (as it was not too busy) but friendly. This weekend there is the Festa so try from next week on.
